Highlights of the Pubs and Breweries tour

No two tours will be exactly the same because everything is tailored to you. You will visit at least three historical pubs, where you can sample the beer and other local fare – we will be happy to recommend places for a good pub meal if you’d like to include this in the trip.

This is a selection of some of our favourite London pubs:

The George – Borough High Street.

Owned by the National Trust, The George is one of the oldest pubs in London and is the only galleried coaching inn that still survives in the city.

The Mayflower – Rotherhithe.

The Pilgrim Fathers began their epic journey to America from here in 1620. See the spot where they departed as you enjoy a drink by the river.

The Town of Ramsgate – Wapping.

This pub is thought to date back to the Wars of the Roses and has a rather bloody history. You can still see a post where pirates were chained up to drown.

The Blind Beggar – Stepney.

A pub has stood on this site since 1654, but it has a newer claim to fame – notorious gangsters The Kray twins murdered a rival gang member as he sat at the bar.

Holborn Viaduct – City of London.

This pub was a Victorian gin palace and still retains much of the décor and architecture. There are also rumoured to be five mysterious prison cells in the basement…

The Old Bank of England – Fleet Street.

This is where the Bank of England traded for 75 years. The pub also sits by Sweeney Todd’s barber shop, and his victims were butchered in the vaults below the building.

The Admiralty – Trafalgar Square.

Based in the heart of Trafalgar Square and keeping to the nautical tone set by Nelson’s Column, this central London pub is beautifully decorated and offers several beers on draught.

Morpeth Arms – Westminster.

Enjoy an atmospheric drink in this supposedly haunted Victorian pub, and pay a visit to the basement where prisoners were held before being taken to Australia.

Churchill Arms – Kensington.

Decorated with reams of flowers outside and filled with Churchill memorabilia inside, this pub is certainly distinctive. Churchill’s grandparents were two of its famous patrons.

The Dove – Hammersmith.

Set in a beautiful riverside spot, The Dove’s history is shrouded in mystery. Some say Charles II frequented the pub, and other claim Rule Britannia was written here.

There is also the option to finish your visit at a working brewery, take a guided tour and enjoy a tasting. This needs to be booked in advance, so please let us know if you would like us to organise this for you.

Who will enjoy this tour?

This tour gives you the opportunity to enjoy London through some of its finest public houses. Learn about local ales, famous beers and brewing processes, and sample a pint or two along the way. There’s also the chance to try a variety of wines and spirits – or join your driver for a soft drink like a good cup of English tea. If you want to include the whole family, we will be happy to recommend child-friendly pubs.

Want to see some more of London? Not a problem. We will sweep you across the city in your taxi, with plenty of photo opportunities long the way. If anything catches your interest, just let us know. This tour is all yours.

Why choose a black taxi tour of London’s pubs and breweries?

This tour is the perfect way to learn about the history of the city and hear captivating tales told by a real Londoner – your guide doubles up as your designated driver and local expert. Settle into your mahogany chair and enjoy the Olde English interiors as your guide takes you back in time with intriguing tales of pirates, famous patrons, political unrest and lovers’ trysts. Each establishment is filled with its own stories and secrets.
